Development was stopped in 1968 and in 1969 production began and continued until 1983.
The development was based on the licence documentation for the original Soviet recovery tank installed on a T-54 (BTS - II) chassis which was made at ZTS VVÚ Martin in 1964. Its armour, resistance to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and complete drive (engine, gearbox) were maintained and they are identical to the T-55A type.ģ-member crew, consisting of a driver-technician, a binder and a commander. It was designed to recover equipment stuck on an obstacle or equipment damaged in combat or even to make repairs. VT-55A Special track vehicle built on a T-55A medium tank chassis.
